Real Baby Shower: Bees Shower

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

First, I wanted to apologize that I've been MIA for a couple of years. As most of you can understand, between being a mother, wife and full-time graphic designer, I had very little time for anything else. And... if I did have time, I was WAY TOO tired. :) I am glad to report that I am back blogging and am excited to share more baby showers, maternity & baby photos and DIY projects.

This bright and colorful, yet neutral, BEE themed baby shower is super sweet! I love all the personal touches from event planner, Emily Elizabeth Events and the mommy-to-be.  There are a ton of DIY ideas that are beautifully captured by Jennifer Davis Photography, such as the fabric streamers, the beehive table, and all the different chalkboard labels. Its all about the little details!!

From Emily… Erica had a lot of sweet ideas for a “jack and jill” baby shower and she pulled me in to help both with the overall vision and itsy-bitsy details. Inspired by her father-in-law’s beekeeping, we made bees the theme and chose a unisex color palette for a more modern look. We went for a simple elegance and shabby chic elements such as the re-purposed beehive that greeted guests as they entered the space.

Erica and John held their tented BBQ in the backyard with the bees and they and their guests enjoyed a few hours of sunny weather despite a weekend that was otherwise plagued by tornado warnings and rain. It was important to them that they include all their friends and family members in the celebration, including babies and kids, and thus hosted a gathering in which more than 100 of their nearest and dearest attended. Erica also showcased the talents of her cousins who provided their event planning, photography, and catering services, making it truly a family affair. It was a relaxed afternoon with something for everyone. Lawn games, socializing, and comfort food gave it a laid back atmosphere that everyone enjoyed.

BBQ classics were accompanied by lemonade, sangria, beer, and wine for the adults in attendance, while the dessert buffet catered to all. Doozies Donuts provided a smoothie station, chocolate fondue and dipping ingredients, as well as a mini donut station where donuts were made to order. Needless to say, the sweets were one of the highlights of the party and no one got away without trying at least one of the tasty treats!

DIY projects by Erica and EEE (Emily Elizabeth Events) included the fabric streamers hung in the tent and above the buffet, glass bottle and daisy centerpieces, baby clothesline, chalkboard food/beverage labels, rolled napkins, and guest book baby libs. Both the baby bottle chocolates and bee and hive cookie favors were creations by Erica’s aunt. The cookies were then decorated by hand by Erica and a couple girlfriends. Mason jars, drink dispensers, and galvanized kitchen items will all be used again for future parties hosted by Erica and John. The art prints and wood toys that were incorporated in the d├ęcor will soon be put to good use in the baby’s nursery.

Jennifer Davis Photography captured all the lovely details and gave the soon-to-be parents some great memories to start their next chapter!
