DIY Tutorial: Cupcakes in a Jar

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Here's a fun tutorial from the adorable Rubyellen of Cakies! {Side Note: Just have to mention how much I LOVE her family photos shown on the ABOUT ME page on her blog. Gorgeous!} Alrighty... its probably no big secret that I'm a sucker for anything in a mason jar. Who isn't??? And this one is filled with a cupcake... Even better! Check out Rubyellen's blog for her step-by-step instructions. What a great dessert or baby shower favor!

From Rubyellen... Going to the other side of the spectrum, from a vegetable garden to loaded with all things bad for you, but tastes so good cupcakes. You won't think I am such a genius anymore once I tell you how these are done. It really is easy and makes for such a visually appealing way to dress up cupcakes, not that cupcakes need to be dressed up as the name itself is cute and enticing!

I pretty much use Paula Deen's recipe, but with a few of my own tiny tweeks to the ingredients and then I pretty much follow the directions in Paula Deen's recipe to make the batter and frosting, though I change it up a bit (time in the oven) when it comes to baking it.

Materials Needed:

All-purpose flour
Sugar
Baking soda
Salt
Cocoa powder
Canola oil
Buttermilk, room temperature
Eggs, room temperature
Red food coloring
White distilled vinegar
Vanilla extract

For the cream cheese frosting:

Cream cheese
Butter
Vanilla extract
Powdered sugar

For the step-by-step instructions PLUS photos, be sure to check out Cakies. Warning: Get ready to be lost in Rubyellen's photography of her sweet family and crafts. I sure did!

Baby Shower Idea: Hot Air Balloon

Monday, November 21, 2011

Originally seen on On to Baby, this Hot Air Ballon baby shower is absolutely breathtaking! I'm head-over-heals in LOVE with this whimsical dessert table {desserts from Batch from Scratch and cotton Candy from Tasty Clouds} as well as the stunning table settings! Fleuretica's decor and flowers are just P-E-R-F-E-C-T. I just can't get over all the little details! STUNNING! The mommy-to-be, Caroline Tran, was also the brilliant photographer capturing this sweet shower. Her friend and host, Hanna Lim of lollacup, did a wonderful job putting together this fabulous soiree. What a memorable occasion!!!!

From Caroline... I am feeling like the luckiest girl right now. Growing up, I never had any close friends. I had a gazillion acquaintances, but never any close friends. I hated how cliquish high school was and chose not to be part of any cliques. Instead, I hung out with several cliques, but was never truly a part of any. In college, I learned the value of close friends and decided that I would put my energy into those who are real friends. In grad school, I met a girl named Hanna. We instantly clicked and have become close friends since. We saw each other through so many milestones. She inspired me in so many more ways than she’ll never know. Her and her now husband inspired me to start my own business. And Hanna just launched her new company, lollacup, and I couldn’t be more proud and inspired!

I was so fortunate to have the very amazing Fleuretica not only do the flowers for my shower, but also most of the decor. I LOVE the custom napkins! I love geometric patterns. And I LOVE that they used film canisters as mini vases!!!

Hanna’s also an amazing chef. She made all the savory foods, and sent guests home with homemade jam! I was also so honored to have Esther from Batch from Scratch make desserts for us. I love the dessert table! Euri & Kendra spelled out the menu with gold wiring! And I love the little cotton candy hot air balloons. Yummy cotton candy by Nina from Tasty Clouds. Esther made some amazing Apple tart & scones! And my favorite was her banana pudding! I ate an entire container.

Real Baby Shower: Vintage Bird Inspired Baby Shower

Friday, November 18, 2011

Jamie of C.R.A.F.T. submitted this adorable baby shower on behalf of her best friend. How sweet as that??? This shower is filled to the rim with handcrafting goodies. There are so many, that I'm just going to start listing my favorites... the champagne popsicles, the artsy buffet cards, glittery clothespins, the yummy angel cake filled mason jars and her fun photo booth and signs. So freakin' cute!

From Jamie of C.R.A.F.T.... Annie, Leah, and friends threw a super sweet, vintage inspired, peach and gray, bird baby shower with lots of personal touches and cute details... Perfect for the Pretty Parties Series.

There was even a photo booth with all kinds of props and chalkboard signs. (See here, here, here for free photo booth printables!)

It was a brunch...check out the cute tulle ball garland dangling on the front of the food table and yarn balls on top of the table :) Annie says Elmer's glue works way better to make yarn balls than Stiffy's fabric stifner!

The food card holders are corks wrapped in yarn with a small knife slit down the middle...

A new twist on an old favorite...mimosas! Melting popsicles and champagne (or sprite :) YUM!

Annie decided to do a similar version of Who's Who. Instead of making it a game with prizes, she used it more as a conversation starter. She had everyone email her their baby pictures before the shower and printed them out. She also had a list of shower attendees pinned up so guests could match names with pictures. See the sparkly clothespins below :) The clothes pins were cure and sparkly. Thanks to Martha Stewart glitter!

They also printed a sweet 5x7 tree and had everyone "leaf" a thumbprint and sign their name. This little memento will be framed and used in the babies room. (See 25 unique guest book ideas)

As for party favors.... everyone took home a strawberry short cake in a jar :) They even modge podged the lids of all the jars and added a copper heart. And last, but not least...here were the invitations from Sassy Photo Creations...
