Real Baby Shower: G is for Gentry

Monday, October 31, 2011

On to another week... and to another pretty, very girly, baby shower. Adore this color palette -- pink, black and white -- especially since its the same as my little girl's bedroom. If I don't say so myself... excellent taste!!! Loving all the famous quotes -- such a wonderful touch to all of the different stations. And speaking of stations... let's focus a sec on the food stations... Everything looks del.icio.us! Kudos to everyone involved, including The Dove’s Nest, Debbie Stoutimore, and Icing, Edible Work of Art.

From Brittany... The shower took place on a beautiful spring day in April. My in-law’s have a lush backyard, which provided the perfect backdrop for the shower location. The colors of the shower represented the colors from Gentry’s baby nursery, and some accessories from her room were incorporated into the shower d├ęcor. These photos were taken by my dear, super talented, friend, Betsy Tanner, who was also one of the shower hostesses. The food was catered by one of my very favorite places, The Dove’s Nest, in Waxahachie, TX. The desserts/ snacks were made, again, by my super talented friend, Betsy. Another close friend (and former caterer), Debbie Stoutimore, contributed the amazing chocolate-covered strawberries. The cupcakes were a last minute addition, as the planned bakery couldn’t fill the order. Icing, Edible Work of Art out of Red Oak, TX, came in in a pinch and provided the delicious cupcakes that looked as good as they tasted! Since this was our second baby, just a few close friends and family attended the shower. It was the perfect, intimate day!

Real Baby Shower: Fall Baby Shower

Friday, October 28, 2011

If this next baby shower from Abby Welker of A Feathered Nest doesn't get you into the Fall mood, I just don't know what will. The yummy pumpkin pie, berry popovers along with all the gorgeous sunflowers have me all excited -- pretty much jumping up and down -- for Thanksgiving. It's my favorite holiday! Originally seen on Love the Day, this baby shower is the perfect fall soiree!

From Abby... This cute girl I've known for a few years is having her first baby and I offered to help out with the shower. And when I mean help out, I mean: call BFF Kadie, put our heads together, come up with something fun, and make it beautiful. And we did. Whatta team. AND...what amazing weather we had today!!! (thank goodness, because we planned an outdoor party) There was a teensy Fall crispy coolness, there were just a few leaves on the ground, the sun peeked out and was shining on everything---it was glowy and magical! Thank you, nature, for giving us perfect weather for today. {I love you, nature. Please go easy on us in winter.}

On the menu: Caprese skewers (toothpick with tomato, fresh basil leaf, seasoned fresh mozzarella balls. These were Kadie's gorgeous creations with everything from her garden. Except the cheese. These were so fresh and delicious.) / Harvest Chicken Salad (rotisserie chicken, nuts, dried cranberries, diced apples, celery, and whatever else is harvesty. Also scrumptious.) / Mixed Berry Popovers (pie crusts cut out in circles, filled with: semi-thawed package frozen mixed berries, sugar, cornstarch, topped with powdered sugar) / Pumpkin Pie we bought this one. shhhh. don't tell. / Chocolate-Dipped Carmel Apples (apples cut in slices, soaked in ginger soda, dipped in carmel...what an adventure..., then dipped in chocolate, then dipped in crushed nuts, coconut, sprinkled with mini chocolate chips...these deserve their own post...) / Water. with apple & lemon slices. We can never have boring water. Ever.

Lanterns, pumpkins, and autumn leaves. ahhhhhhhh.....

Kadie and I got an education whilst making these dipped apples. The secret: don't make the carmel too thin--just water it down a smudge--and it will most likely only stick to the skin of the apple, not the flesh. Maybe if you dried the apples off really, really, really well, the carmel might stick to the apple flesh, but don't count on it. Let the carmel set and harden before you dip the apples in chocolate. We made these the day before--I loaded up a couple of cookie sheets lined with waxed paper, covered them, and put them in the fridge overnight.

Our favie fave flavor of the apples were: carmel-dipped white chocolate, dipped in coconut, sprinkled with nuts, drizzled with carmel. The chocolate-chocolate ones just weren't as good as these ones were. Go figure. I could use one right now.

mmmmm.....Kadie knocked this chicken salad out of the park. It was SO good!! We scooped it onto toasted baguette rounds. Perfect. ...mmmm....berry popovers. Gosh. I'm getting hungry doing this post. This is getting ridiculous.

Sunflowers clipped fresh from Kadie's front yard. Aren't they gorgeous?! Sunflowers are stunning.

Baby Shower Idea: Puppy and Kitty Party

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Here's a new theme... at least new to me... This DARLING puppy and kitty birthday party from the fabulous photographer, Corey Villicana {Life With Little Ones} would be a great idea for when you don't know the baby's gender. You may remember Corey from her DIY photo booth I featured a little while ago -- if not, be sure to check it out! Well... she has done it again. Her homemade puppy and kitty headbands and collars along with some other fun photo props are just too cute!

From Corey... My beautiful niece Francesca recently turned one year old and we were thrilled to celebrate alongside her at an absolutely darling puppy-kitty themed birthday party! The theme was chosen by my sister, due to Francesca's apparent love for animals!

While designing the look and feel of the party, I was inspired by various sources; including the ever popular Pinterest, Where I've been collecting and pinning party ideas over the past few months! You can find Life With Little Ones on Pinterest, here.

I was thrilled to handmake all of the party themed accessories, including the puppy and kitty ear headbands, and the personalized collars!

The Vintage photo booth was a lovely addition to the party, where guests could be photographed as a party favor with their favorite little "pet!" More information on the Vintage Photobooth can be found on my website.
