Real Baby Shower: Horse Love

Monday, May 23, 2011

Good morning everybody and welcome back to another fun-filled week of baby shower inspiration! Let's start of this week with a first... That is the first horse themed baby shower on Bump Smitten. Giddy Up! Lovin' all the plaid, english scones and horseshoes brought together in this rustic tea and polo shoppe. Could you think of a more perfect venue?!?! Brilliantly captured by Amanda Lock Photography and based off the gorgeous invitation designed by Reichel of Copy Cat Chic (also the mommy-to-be), this shower is off-the-charts fabulous.

From Reichel of Copy Cat Chic... My lifetime love of horses decided the theme for this baby shower, especially since I was expecting a little girl. What little girl doesn't love ponies!

My good friend Courtney, the shower hostess, looked into so many venues, but once we had decided on the horse theme, I knew exactly where we had to have it at. The shower was held at an amazing little

tea room called Tal-y-Tara; not only is it a tea shoppe, but a tack shop as well. It had just the right mix of English tea, cozy antiques and vintage equestrian appeal. Being a graphic designer, I created the invites using vintage equestrian-themed clipart. The invites incorporated a horseshoe and a bouquet of roses. Courtney used the invites as her inspiration for the shower decor. She decorated the tables using my vintage Breyer horse collection and horse show ribbons. She also ordered a trophy cup with my littler girl's name and the year engraved on it and used it to chill the champagne. Courtney visited the SF Flowermart the day before and bought gorgeous red roses and cream hydrangeas which she arranged in old tea tins provided by the tea shoppe and used for centerpieces on the tables. A sweet message from Lindsay (Lindsay's Letters) was used on a welcome sign attached to a life-sized horse, lovingly nicknamed Fred, standing at the entrance to the tea shoppe. The same calligraphy was used in the sign-it frame for guests to write heart-felt messages on.

For food we had Tal-y-Tara's signature motorloaf tea sandwiches, a fresh garden salad and award winning scones and clotted cream. To finish off the meal mini cupcakes decorated with fondant gold horseshoes and red roses were displayed on an antique tea sandwich tiered tray. Bottomless pots of tea were served in the most adorable tea cozies and mimosas were readily available throughout.

For favors we used old horseshoes that my farrier gave me for free. The horseshoes were cleaned and then spray-painted gold and embellished with a ribbon and thank you tag. We played a couple of games including a guess-the celebrity game and guests wrote their name on mini horse show ribbons and pinned them onto a "guess-the-date" calendar.

When it came time to open the presents, it came as no surprise that there were plenty of horsie-themed gifts being given ;) Arden even received her first pair of riding boots!
