From Annika... Well, we got the idea because EVERYONE in my family calls Ellie "The Bee" because she's busy as a bee and has a cute little stinger. My kids even call her "Auntie Bee." My mom had been collecting birds & bees things since before Ellie was even pregnant in preparation for this shower! It suited her so well.
I designed the invites and all the extra paper goods, my mom sewed up the birds, bunting, and bees, we decorated the house to the 9s with beehives, birdcages (old brown ones spray-painted pink & green), moss, and beautiful spring flowers. We hung the birds and bees on fishing line so that they looked like they were flying. My sister-in-law Kelly is a gourmet chef and made ALL of the food. It not only was delicious but looked amazing too. My mom made those darling cookies though.
It was a total hoot to put on. When Ellie walked in she was floored. She was wearing a bee pin on her dress and my mom quickly threw a bird nest hat on her head. She was the perfect mommy-to-be. She had about 60 guests there - a popular gal! - and had friends from high school, college, work, and family from all over to celebrate.
Lets see... the games.. Well, we're not big on games so we did a diaper doodling station (where you draw or write words on newborn baby diapers. We leave these with the mom-to-be so that when she's changing diapers at 2am, she will laugh when she sees something like "Wake Daddy up and make him change me!") We also made a "wishes for baby" station where people would fill out prompts like "I hope you love_________. I hope you laugh_______." We binded this into a book for her after the shower.
The mantle had a big sign that said "Ellie is Nesting." It was a great day!
