DIY Tutorial: Paper Flowers

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Remember the "Colorful Dinner Party" baby shower I posted a week ago? Super creative? Right?! Well, here is the paper flower tutorial I promised from Breanna of the Bayou Moon. These might take awhile -- but COMPLETELY worth it. Use scrap paper, and mix patterns and colors - let your imagination go wild. A bucket full of these flowers would also be a perfect accessory in the baby nursery {love reusing handmade crafts}. In case you were wondering where to buy the stencil -- check out this store. Enjoy!

From Breanna... These are super easy if you have all the right stuff... For the big arrangements, I left a lot with the wire exposed and covered others with the pom poms.

Materials:
flower stencil from hobby lobby/craft store {it was in a really obscure place near the stamps}
paper piercer
floral wire
mini pom poms {optional}

Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. trace and cut the petals--this is definitely the most time consuming step.
2. the stencil suggests a number to cut, but i usually added an extra one to make them a little fuller.
3. fold and stack
4. make 2 holes with paper piercer--there are obviously many options when it comes to this step. i chose to make the two holes and leave the wire long so that i could stick them in a styrofoam ball. you could also use a brad.
5. inserts wire and twist ends together
6. wha-laa...a flower!
