Real Baby Shower: Ahoy It's a Boy

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Its always nice to have a theme in mind for the baby nursery (and shower) before you even know the sex. Thank goodness the ultrasound announced this couple was having a boy. Ships Ahoy! Loving all the red, white and blue decor brilliantly photographed by Elle G Photography. And that cake... Sweet Cheeks Baking Company -- GORGEOUS! I'm also going to have to order some of those fill-in-the-blank custom guestbook pages from the Guestbook Store. What a wonderful idea!

From Christina... Before learning the gender of our first baby, my husband Jon and I frequently discussed how we would decorate the baby's nursery. For a boy, we knew it had to be a nautical theme, as I grew up sailing both in San Diego and Lake Tahoe. As a couple, Jon and I love sailing. For a girl, we were very undecided -- ranging from a preppy pink and green motif to butterflies and flowers, etc. As it got closer to our 20-week ultrasound appointment, I started hoping for a boy as it would make designing a nursery easy. We were, of course, elated to learn that we were indeed having a baby boy and the nautical baby shower theme at the San Diego Yacht Club was a just given!

My dear friend Becky Howe co-hosted the shower with my mom. A few years ago, I hosted Becky's shower for her first baby girl Olivia. Truth be told, I LOVE to plan and host parties. So, both my mom and Becky knew better and pretty much allowed me to do just about all of the planning for the shower!

If you look closely, the red velvet cake has both the San Diego Yacht Club and Tahoe Yacht
Club
flags. My family is a member of the Tahoe Yacht Club and Becky's family are members of the San Diego Yacht Club.

The guestbook was interactive and engaged all of my guests -- new and old friends, co-workers and family from near and afar. They were mixing, mingling and laughing out loud. The energy in the room was contagious. And we get a kick out of reading the guest's predictions and new parent advice now that our son Carson has arrived.
