Real Baby Shower: Sweet Sundae Shower

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Hello, baby shower planning weekend warriors!  Elizabeth and I didn't get this little gem of a shower out to you on Friday, but we figured let's post it today anyways! (Better late than never, right)?  Plus, who doesn't love a little blog browsing on the weekend?!  :)  Now it's a little snowy and cold in Utah this weekend -- so, it's a little hard to wrap our heads around eating ice cream, but after looking through Jordan's absolutely delightful baby shower photographs, we're thinking of cranking up our heat and getting our sundae toppings out of the cupboard!  This shower that Jordan from Polka Dot Prints put together is so perfect for hosting inside (and even outside when the weather starts to warm up).  We are so smitten with the type that Jordan used for the invitations -- we love seeing the little surprises inside the lettering on the invitations and favor bags (baby mushrooms and flowers -- how sweet)!  We know we've said this before, but we love little details like these -- they make us smile and make a shower really stand out.  And, we're happy to let you know that Jordan has these (and many more) printables available at her newly created online store -- so you too can create just as sweet details at your upcoming shower. :)  So, hop on over, and if you seeing something particularly cute, be sure to share it with us in the comments section!

From Jordan... I was given free reign to host and style up my sisters’ baby shower I used this opportunity to use some creative ideas I’d had floating around in my head for a while, including this idea of an ice cream bar! The invitation really did set the tone for the event. It was summery, fun and ‘sweet’. I incorporated lots of subtle illustrations within the type, including strawberries, rainbows, ice cream cones and baby items.

For the dessert table, I used mixed mediums, such as tin, wood, hessian and glass at the ice cream bar, to keep the look soft and ‘natural’ but still fun. On the day of the party, we had guests decorate a ‘onesie’ cookie when they arrived, which then served as our guests’ take home favour.

The dessert table featured large ‘BABY’ letters to give some height. Ice cream was served from an ice-filled galvanised tub, and then there were the toppings! So much to choose from; cookie dough, crushed Tim Tams, gummi bears, marshmallows, cherry ripe as well as garnishes & sweet sauces, all displayed in jars or pots with scoops and mini tongs. It was a big hit, and everyone loved it…who doesn’t like ice-cream?

"Jordan captured completely the vibe I wanted for my shower starting with the
invitations. It was a really fun shower with everyone interacting straight from when they arrived at the cookie decorating station. And then to see all the different ice cream creations all the girls made, I couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon!" Eden, mum-to-be (& sister!)

Some styling highlights were the pink lemonade in glass bottles, cookie dough balled and served in cupcake papers, and sprinkles scooped from brown paper bags and presented in an Asian steamer. I also love the wooden scoops which I found at
wheel & barrow. I had a lot of help from family supplies, baking onesies and preparing for the party, I couldn’t have done it without them!

It was an even better day when the baby we celebrated actually arrived into the world! I had the privilege of also designing his
birth announcement. What a handsome little chap!
