From Jordan... I was given free reign to host and style up my sisters’ baby shower I used this opportunity to use some creative ideas I’d had floating around in my head for a while, including this idea of an ice cream bar! The invitation really did set the tone for the event. It was summery, fun and ‘sweet’. I incorporated lots of subtle illustrations within the type, including strawberries, rainbows, ice cream cones and baby items.
For the dessert table, I used mixed mediums, such as tin, wood, hessian and glass at the ice cream bar, to keep the look soft and ‘natural’ but still fun. On the day of the party, we had guests decorate a ‘onesie’ cookie when they arrived, which then served as our guests’ take home favour.
The dessert table featured large ‘BABY’ letters to give some height. Ice cream was served from an ice-filled galvanised tub, and then there were the toppings! So much to choose from; cookie dough, crushed Tim Tams, gummi bears, marshmallows, cherry ripe as well as garnishes & sweet sauces, all displayed in jars or pots with scoops and mini tongs. It was a big hit, and everyone loved it…who doesn’t like ice-cream?
"Jordan captured completely the vibe I wanted for my shower starting with the invitations. It was a really fun shower with everyone interacting straight from when they arrived at the cookie decorating station. And then to see all the different ice cream creations all the girls made, I couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon!" Eden, mum-to-be (& sister!)
Some styling highlights were the pink lemonade in glass bottles, cookie dough balled and served in cupcake papers, and sprinkles scooped from brown paper bags and presented in an Asian steamer. I also love the wooden scoops which I found at wheel & barrow. I had a lot of help from family supplies, baking onesies and preparing for the party, I couldn’t have done it without them!
It was an even better day when the baby we celebrated actually arrived into the world! I had the privilege of also designing his birth announcement. What a handsome little chap!
