Real Baby Shower: Lil' Woodland Critters Theme

Friday, October 22, 2010

"Wow -- wow, wow, wow!" That was our reaction when we opened our email from Jenn (aka the Hostess with the Mostess). (OK, and there might have been a few girly squeals in there too).  :)  But, we promise Jenn's shower is that good -- and oh-so creative too! I mean, would you ever dream up a woodland theme for a baby shower? We'll be honest -- it's not a theme we immediately think of. But, in reality -- how perfect is it for fall?! Plus, the cuteness/ smitten factor of this shower is off. the. charts. Dressing cherry tomatoes with mozzarella balls to look like cartoon mushrooms? GENIUS! And, little felt baby animals hanging everywhere? Please, our hearts can't take it! Jenn has packed in so many adorable elements into this forest theme -- this shower is guaranteed to make you smile. And, with so many steal-worthy DIY details -- we know you're going to want to copy every one of them! So, scroll on down to see what the fuss is all about!

From Jenn {a.k.a. Hostess with the Mostess}... I’m in the midst of planning a Woodland Forest themed baby shower for a friend next month, and I gotta tell you this theme has been so much fun to brainstorm! There are tons of different elements that fit with a forest theme – from nature-inspired elements such as wood, bark, moss, acorns, rocks and toadstools (all covered in this post) to cute “woodland creatures” like squirrels, owls, bunnies, hedgehogs, and more.
No matter which critter you’re looking at, these colorful, felt toy party favors are pretty much the cuteness! Find out more about them over at Simply Stated today!

Here are some woodsy & toadstool-inspired items I’ve found so far that are a good fit for this theme (which would also work well for a first birthday party or autumn get-together!)…  Flexible Birch Bark ($4.99); Moss Cobble Balls ($3.99 – $22); 11.5″ Moss Bunny Topiary ($8.99); 12″ Wood Tree Stump ($19.99); 8″ Wood Tree Stump ($11.95); and flexible 20×10″ Moss-covered Tree Bark ($11.99). Natural Bark Slices ($3.99 / 15 pieces) – these could be great for place cards or party favor “tags”; Decorative Acorns, set of 6 ($15); 48″ Flexible Moss Twig Garland ($11.99); Natural Preserved Moss Baskets, set of 2 ($18.99); 11″ Moss-covered Twig Basket ($32); and Flocked Moss Cobbles ($8.99). Felted Acorns by Etsy shop Fairyfolk would make for charming party favor or place card embellishments. ($12/set of 6) Fun toadstool-inspired finds {clockwise from top left}: Tiny Polymer Clay Toadstools ($16/set of 7); adorable, plush Red Mushroom Toadstool Family ($68/set of 3, custom-made to order); Toadstool Gift Tags ($3/set of 10); Set of 2 Crochet Mushrooms ($10). Adorable tweet & felt plushies by Etsy shop SleepyKing… Butterscotch Tweed Fox ($18), Belchick – The Mischevious Squirrel ($22), and Douglas Fir – “the little bear with freckles” ($24).

I also ordered some blank Wood Coasters and a Chipboard Family Tree to decorate with the Friendly Forest paper and use somewhere in the party. Not 100% sure where the tree will end up yet, but it reminded me of this cool tree wall graphic that I love… and I couldn’t resist =)
