Real Baby Shower: Under the Sycamore

Monday, September 20, 2010

Have the leaves in your backyard and neighborhood parks started to change into brilliant yellows, reds, and oranges yet? Elizabeth and I have noticed that it's getting cooler these days. Fall is on her way -- we just know it -- and outside celebrations are going to be coming to a close. So, we're taking this week to reminisce about the dog days of summer by featuring some completely swoon-worthy backyard baby shower celebrations.

Photographed and designed by the lovely Ashley from Ashley Ann Photography, this baby shower is going to pull at your heart strings and make you laugh out loud. (Once you see the advice box and notes that Ashley photographed you'll understand what we're talking about). But, what we really adore about this shower are Ashley's creative DIY details that make this soiree so wonderfully girly -- lots of pink, lace, and florals -- the 5 year old girls inside of us are dying! Wouldn't you love to have a room in your house decorated like this -- a powder room that is oh-so perfectly feminine but has a dash of country charm? I think I would happily die from pink floral bliss! But, I'm rambling, so let's just get to Ashley's photos -- we think they speak for themselves.

From Ashley... I got to throw my sister a baby shower over the weekend. I am giddy with excitement to meet my niece, Paisley (love that name!). I am already an aunt… on Chris’ side of the family I have 4 nieces and 4 nephews (ages 21 to 2)! This will be my first niece or nephew on my side of the family. AND since it is my sister having the baby I feel the freedom to push my way into her business… and I will smile I’m not sure the shower reflected my sister’s taste, but I think she liked my hodge podge of randomness! We had a little party under the sycamore in the backyard…

It seemed appropriate to take scraps from Firecracker’s
nursery quilt and make some ruffles on the invites. It was an evening party so I had desserts and drinks… thanks mom, dad, grandma & Lars for baking some yummy treats. Lesley loves chocolate cupcakes with white frosting. Usually my cupcakes look like one of my boys made them. Meg came to the rescue with this frosting recipe (the end part where you add cool whip)… my cupcakes looked awesome if I do say so myself!

There was a jar full of advice, so when Lesley wants advice she can get it… Yep,
my chair (post 4 hours of deep upholstery cleaning) made an appearance. I used the Fun & Flirty template from Design Aglow for this shower's invitations, banner and food signs.
